Keep checking here for updates on practice schedules, etc.
For the first time, Mounds Park Academy is allowing 8th graders to be a part of our Classic Debate team. As you know, we've scheduled a number of sessions to introduce you to debate. On Tuesday, October 2nd, we'll visit study halls and do a session there. Otherwise, we have times available after school as well. (We can do Thursday study halls as well if there is demand.)
The first tournament that we're opening up to 8th Grade registrations is on Saturday, October 13th. We'll travel by bus to Lakeville North HS. A large number of schools will be competing there, and you'd debate only against other first-year debaters. We can help you get ready...
Please see Ms. Murr or Mr. Vergin if you have any questions.
We’re scheduling a number of “Getting Started” sessions to provide you with a basic introduction to
debate. The dates and times for these are listed below. ALL NEW DEBATERS SHOULD TRY TO MAKE ONE OF THESE INFORMATION SESSIONS.

These sessions would be good opportunities to ask questions, practice your skills, look for evidence, etc. Eventually, we can also hold practice debates at times like these.
We’ll post sign up sheets outside both Murr and Vergin’s rooms by the end of the day on Monday for the October tournaments.. The blog will have more information about how tournaments work.
Our goal is to have packets of evidence posted by the end of Monday evening, and sample constructive speeches should follow soon...
We won't have evidence and sample cases ready until the weekend, but we'd be happy to meet with anyone who is free after school this Tuesday / Wednesday to introduce you to Classic Debate.
Today: (Tuesday) - If you are around after school, come to Vergin's room (171) at 3:20.
Tomorrow: (Wednesday) - Same thing. Room 171 at 3:20.
You may be able to catch one/both of us (Murr or Vergin) during conferences for a couple minutes. We'll certainly have a number of practice opportunities next week as well.
VETERANS: If you have done any research, please get it to me by the end of Thursday. Thanks.
Hello. If you are reading this, you've probably already decided to give competitive debate a try. (If you are simply checking us out because you are curious, welcome as well. Please stop by or email me if you have any questions.)
