Get Your Paws on a Good Book
Get Your
Paws on a Good Book
Second grade students are either practicing their reading fluency
or reading independently so I'd like to implement a home reading project. This year's home reading program is
entitled "Get Your Paws on a Good Book."
This reading project will continue throughout the entire school year.
Each student is expected to fill out and turn in one reading
paw log each week on the last day of the school week (usually Friday). This is the way I can document at home
reading and student effort in reading outside of school. Each time your child reads at home
he/she should fill out a line in the reading paw log. Your child should complete the log, listing the book title,
and the number of pages or amount of time read. (Note: A student does
not have to read an entire book to fill out a line on the form.) After
filling out the form your child should briefly discuss what he/she has read
with an adult. The adult should
then sign the log. The
reading paw logs will be checked by Mrs. Baier and kept in bags on a bulletin
board in the classroom. These
reading paw logs will count towards the reading effort mark on your child's
report card.
I am sending home the first reading paw logs today. Additional reading paw logs are
available in our classroom. New
logs will be sent home every Friday (or the last day of the school week).
Please encourage and praise your child in this
endeavor. Thank you in advance for
taking an interest in your child's reading.
