Math Club

The MATHCOUNTS chapter competition will be on Saturday, February 7, 2009. The  state competition will be on Saturday, March 14, 2009. This is the first Saturday of our spring break. If you are interested in participating in MATHCOUNTS, please keep those dates open.

We will choose our team and alternates during Math Club, based on a team selection test and completion of the MATHCOUNTS Warm-Ups and Workouts we have been doing. If you want to participate in MATHCOUNTS, remember to complete those Warm-Ups and Workouts!

Welcome to Math Club!

Math Club is for students who love math! If you want to see some math you will not see in your math class, if you enjoy problems that are extra challenging or require some clever tricks, if you hope to do well on the American Math Competition and hope to make our Math Counts team, then Math Club is for you!

Math Club will be your 6th block B-day study hall. Some days there will be a mini-lecture on a topic. Some days there will be a longer lecture on a topic. There will always be some problems to try. There is no grade, so there is nothing to be afraid of.

If you have other homework you need to work on, or if you need to see another teacher about something, you can do that too. But if you're in Math Club, I do expect you to try some of the problems.

The MPA Math Club earned Gold Level recognition in the Math Counts club program for the 2007-2008 school year. Club members completed monthly challenges and had 80% or better correct on the Ultimate Math Challenge. Only 2 schools in Minnesota and 184 in the nation earned this recognition.
