The Action Continues! 1-23 to 1-27

This week students will be selecting a mealworm problem to solve in lab. Not only do they come up with their own problem but they are also responsible to write a procedure and then carry out their experiment. An example would be to determine if mealworms prefer a lighted area, a darkened area or something in between.

Energy saving tip:
Dim your room lights and look five years younger.

Mealworms Are Here! 01-09 to 01-13

Tuesday the Disease Short Stories are due. These are 500 word minimum and tell the story of the pathogen selected and the disease that results. Some class time has been spend gathering information.

The students will also be running three separate mealworm labs (this started last week) with each lab having the students becoming more and more responsible for designing and conducting the lab.

More Animal Classification: 10-03 to 10-07

We are finishing the Animal Jar activity and student answer sheets are due next Tuesday, 10-4. Students may come in at recess or study hall if they need more time to finish.

Microscopes are our next unit followed by bacteria and other very small creatures.

On Friday, November 4th students (and teachers) will spend the day at the Minnesota Zoo. Yes, it can be cool or even cold in November but the animals are very active and the crowds are nonexistent as there are few other school groups at the zoo. As I tell the kids, "When we get there we own the zoo!"

Parents are more than welcome. Students are split into small groups and travel the zoo with clipboard and packet in hand. Permission slips will come home later this month.
