MCTM 2010 Spring Conference
Welcome to my links page for STEM Activities Using NASA Data. There are several resources I used for this presentation including NASA data and GeoGebra teacher resources. Click on the links to download a
PDF of the activity or handout. If you have any questions, comment
below or click here to send me a note.
In preparation for this presentation I consulted Martha Grigsby, Educational Specialist-Secondary Mathematics at Tietronix Software, Inc., developers of the Exploring Space Through Math program to help students in grades 7-12 develop a deeper understanding of key mathematical concepts, and learn how to apply those concepts in the context of space exploration.
Exploring Space through Math links
Pre-Calculus, Calculus
Algebra I/II & Geometry
STEM Activities using NASA data presentation files...
You can get GeoGebra here.
Design a Crew Module contains the presentation files PLUS the original NASA student and teacher handouts and the 3-D Grapher file and sideview Graphing Calculator file. You can get Winplot for PCs here.
Design Crew Module.zip
Lunar Rover files contain the presentation files PLUS the original NASA student handouts, the GeoGebra files we used and the graph of the problem.
Lunar Rover.zip
Mass v. Time files contain the presentation files PLUS the original NASA teacher handout.
Mass vs. Time.zip
Space Shuttle Ascent contains the presentation files PLUS the original NASA student and teacher handouts and the GeoGebra files that model the problem.
Space Shuttle Ascent.zip
One other interesting problem explores the creation of weightlessness and how to model it using parabolas.
