Independent Assignments - Overview

This is an an overview of the independent assignments that you will complete over the course of the semester. Specific information for each of the eight assignments can be found on the "page" found on the right side of the course blog.

You will complete SEVEN of the following EIGHT assignments: All are worth 20 points each. (See the note about extra credit). None of these are designed to take you much more than 2 hours to do. However, some of you may want to go a little further or beyond the basic requirements. EXTRA CREDIT NOTE: I will, at my discretion, award up to 25 points on these. You can still consider 20/20 to be a "perfect" score meaning that you did a good job and met the requirements, but I will go higher for those I believe go beyond. Don't get greedy and ask me "Why 23 and not 24?" or whatever.

You can choose do the assignments in any order you would like.  However, you need to turn in one at (or before) the beginning of class for each deadline listed below.  You cannot do two assignments from the same category.  Topics may overlap, but you can't "double dip" and seek credit for two assignments for doing the exact same thing.

(If you would like, you can complete an assignment from the eighth category for extra credit.  That final assignment would be due by Wednesday, January 7th.  It would be worth the same 20 points.  This is NOT available as an option if you have not completed the required seven assignments.)

INDEPENDENT ASSIGNMENT DUE DATES:  One of these assignments is due by the beginning of class on the following dates.  (I won't accept assignments worked in during class on the due dates.  If it is not in on time, it will be deducted 10% per class session, beginning that first day.)

  • Thursday, September 11th
  • Thursday, September 25th
  • Tuesday, October 14th
  • Thursday, November 6th
  • Tuesday, November 25th
  • Friday, December 12th
  • Wednesday, January 7th
